Animal & Ethical Approval

Requirements for studies involving animals and/or human participants

1

Policy

Ethics Statement Requirement

KUJAS does not consider manuscripts that fail to include an explicit statement on ethical approval and the protection of animal welfare (and/or human participant protections, when applicable).

The ethics statement must be included in the Materials and Methods section. If journal format requires, it may also be reported in the Acknowledgments section.

The editorial office may request ethics approval documents and related supporting materials during assessment.

Approval Details

  • Identify the approving ethics committee / institutional review board (IRB/IACUC or equivalent).
  • Provide the approval/reference number (and registry/certification number where applicable).
  • State compliance with applicable local laws and regulations.
Editorial decision: Editors reserve the right to reject manuscripts if there is doubt that appropriate ethical procedures and approvals were obtained.
2

Animal Research Requirements

Animal Welfare

When experimental animals are used (all live animals are considered experimental when used for a study), the Methods section must clearly indicate that adequate measures were taken to minimize pain, distress, and discomfort.

  • Describe anesthesia/analgesia and humane endpoints (when applicable).
  • Report housing, husbandry, and monitoring procedures where relevant.
  • Justify sample size and experimental design where appropriate.

ARRIVE Guidelines (In Vivo Studies)

For manuscripts based on in vivo experiments, authors are expected to follow the ARRIVE guidelines and revise the manuscript accordingly.

Important: Failure to comply with ARRIVE reporting requirements may result in rejection or major revision.
3

Human Participants (When Applicable)

Human Ethics Approval

All studies involving human participants must include an explicit ethics statement in the Materials and Methods section identifying the approving committee/IRB and the approval/reference number (if applicable), along with confirmation of compliance with relevant ethical standards and applicable regulations.

Where required, authors must state how informed consent was obtained.
