Abstract
Weed control study on cotton (V. Lashata) were conducted during growing season 2011 at Hawi AL- Kaneesa (H) and College farm (C) at the Mosul University in Nenava governorate (IRAQ) to determine the effect of seven hand hoeing treatments ( hand hoeing after two (T1) , four (T2) and six (T3) weeks of seeds cotton emerged , twice hand hoeing (T1+ T2) , (T1 + T3) and (T2 + T3) and un weeded treatment), All treatments were practericed in herbicide treatment (Glyphosate 6.4 Lai. ha-1, Gramaxon 2.8 Lai. ha-1 and without herbicides) which had sprayed before the initial plowing and furrow. These treatments had done to improve productivity and of quality and weed control.
The results indicate that weed can compete strongly with cotton plants especially in the early growth stage Glyphosate was the best herbicide than Gramaxon in reducing total dry weight of weeds (DWT) which gave 43.2 % and 25.2 % respectively if it compression with check treatment . Number and weight of open boll had increased up to 41% , 23.2 % when used Glyphosate and Gramaxon respectively. On other hand , hand hoeing six weeks after seed cotton emerge (T3) had inhibited (TDW) of weed up to 57.6% comparison with control, Also number and weight of open bolls had increased in treatments (T2 + T3) and (T1 + T3) which reflect on increasing yield up to 57.8 % and 78.1 % respectively. In general (H) location was more better than (C) location in most cotton parameters which gave differences in yield up to 1415.7 ka/ha.
