Abstract
Field experiments have showed The interaction between some varieties of (Zea mays L.) to the infestation with corn stem borer (Sesamia cretica L.) and tow insectcide. The varieties and the two insectcide showed obvious effects in decreasing the percentages of infested corn plants and gave better plant characteristics especially when using seed dressing combined with sprinkling. Thus, the variety Bohooth 106 was superior in tolarance to be infestation with this pest and showed lowest percentage of infested plants at (1.387 %) and superior yield characteristics (percentage of infested ears, leaf area cm2/plant, height of plant, dry weight gm/plant, and grain yield kg/ Donum) and was 0.69 % , 5969.4 cm2/plant , 199.30 cm/plant , 212.18 gm/ plant , and 3668.3 kg/Donum) respectively. Other varieties followed in their characteristics according to the following order (Sara , Danya and Talar) in their sensitivity to infestation to the pest and yield characteristics while the variety Rabee was the more inferior in tolarance to the infestation with this pest and showed highest percentage of infested plants treatment control at (59.720%) and lowest yield in the aforementioned characteristics 41.66 % , 3852.3 cm2/plant , 97.96 cm/plant , 71.00 gm/plant , 1009.33 kg/Donum. All the chemical treatments (seed dressing with cruiser alone, sprinkling with Salut alone, fumigation with cruiser + sprinkling with Salut) gave good results in decreasing the percentage of infection and promoting the growth and yield characteristics especially the treatment of (seed dressing with cruiser + sprinkling with Salut) which was superior to all treatment and showed positive impact on the growth and yield characteristics as using cruiser provided relative protection to the plant for 28 day and Salut comp- lemented the first pesticide and lowered the infestation to lowest possible levels.
